Fachada Edificio Arsys

Internet Data Center (IDC)

The Data Center is the heart of the company, where Arsys’ data traffic is centralized and the availability of the hosted services is guaranteed 365 days a year.

Arsys has three Data Centers with the following characteristics:

1. Capacity

The main facility occupies 6,000 m2, distributed between server space (technical rooms), systems of availability (supply, air conditioning, connectivity, logical security, monitoring …) and logistics (storage, sending and reception of goods …).

The raised flooring available for servers reaches 1,000 m2, distributed in four independent server rooms of 250 m2 each. These dimensions allow the accommodation of 15,000 servers.

This facility, dedicated exclusively to the hosting of Internet services, is complemented by two other data centers: one located at the corporate headquarters of Arsys and another in Madrid.

2. Flexibility

An “invest as you grow” model was adopted, so the facility will be enabled progressively according to clients’ service needs.

This modularity allows clients to benefit from different levels of service: servers can be installed with different security configurations and availability, depending on the levels required by each project.

3. Energy Efficiency

The Data Center is designed to minimize the environmental impact of hosting and achieve excellent values of energy efficiency.

In addition to the servers’ power consumption, the air conditioning of the server space is as demanding on the energy resources and important to ensure the quality of services.

For these reasons, the company chose the most cutting edge technology solutions that reduce the air conditioning’s energy consumption by 40%.

4. Availability & Security

Arsys’ Data Center has security systems and a redundant communications network to ensure the integrity and availability of its hosted services.

Every server and security and connectivity element is connected to the High Availability Center (HAC), the Data Center’s control room, guaranteeing its correct functioning, optimal availability conditions and data transfer.
From the control room, technical specialists of the company monitor 24/7 all factors that might influence the availability of the services, lines of communications, etc.

The company’s Data Center has all technological advances and four different security levels to ensure maximum safety:

  1. Physical Security:

    • Centralized security control system throughout the facility
    • Restricted access to the server rooms through biometric identification, proximity card and password
    • 24/7 monitoring by specialists
    • Closed-circuit television system (CCTV)
    • Laser beam detection system
    • Inert gas extinction system
  2. Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Security:

    • Redundant configuration of the cooling systems
    • Cooling towers
    • An inertia tank of cold water per server room
    • Temperature and humidity sensors
    • Thermal insulation systems developed with state-of-the-art materials
  3. Power Supply Security:

    • Redundant transformers
    • Redundant and independent Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems
    • Redundant power generators
    • Fuel tanks
  4. Logical Security:

    • Latest generation firewalls
    • Intruder detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS)
    • Web application firewall
    • Automated analysis and management of vulnerabilities
    • SIM/SEM, an information and security events management system
    • Backup

The network

Arsys is one of the few Spanish Internet providers with its own redundant network and with presence in various neutral points.

The Arsys IP network is a self-contained system registered in the RIPE  (AS20718), so it has its own range of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. The company manages its own routers with BGP4 and BGP4+ protocols (used for IPv6), which allows it to connect the Arsys network of servers to multiple operators using different physical lines.

For network configuration flexibility, Arsys can also manage different sub-networks assigned to its clients.

Arsys has peering agreements with over 200 operators throughout the world. The data traffic is exchanged in the most appropriate network nodes according to the user's geographical location. For this, Arsys is a member of neutral data exchange points in Spain (Espanix), the United Kingdom (Linx) and France (Parix).

The company can therefore guarantee the download speed to any destination. The data packets travel by the most suitable and direct routes without delays in reaching the user.

Arsys is a multihomed Internet provider. The operators are chosen looking for optimal connection speed with all Internet users. In other words, the company tries to ensure that its servers are seen very quickly and without bottlenecks by the users of any national or foreign operator.

Its backbone consists of two OC-192/SDH-64 on DWDM optical fibre trunk links each with a capacity of 10 Gbps. Physically, they are fully redundant throughout their route and are active simultaneously. These trunk links connect its network with various nodes in which the company has a physical presence.
